Research Assistant (Project-based)

Oceana in the Philippines is seeking a Research Assistant preferably based in Southern Leyte to support an applied governance and marine conservation research project in Panaon Island Protected Seascape (PIPS) in partnership with international universities from April to December 2026.

Role Summary 

The Research Assistant will support data collection, organization, documentation, assessment for a research project implemented by Oceana Philippines in partnership with the University of Michigan and the University of Rhode Island. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support key informant interviews, focus group discussions, training needs assessments, training, and related assessments with PIPS local stakeholders
  • Conduct data collection and documentation  
  • Clean, organize, and prepare qualitative and quantitative data for analysis 
  • Support field logistics, transcription, summaries, and research documentation 
  • Assist in compiling descriptive reports and datasets for research partners 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelors degree in Social Science, Environmental Studies, Biology, Fisheries, or related fields 
  • Strong qualitative research and documentation skills 
  • Experience with community-based or field research is an advantage 
  • High attention to detail  
  • Comfortable working with local government and community stakeholders
